James (Jim) Robert Fulkert passed away peacefully at his home on April 11, 2015 at age 91, shortly before his 92nd birthday. Born in Genoa, Ohio on April 28, 1923, the eldest son of Clarence and Helen (James) Fulkert. The family moved from Genoa to Port Clinton in the 1920’s. He graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1941. Jim served in World War II as a radar tech in the Army Air Corps, 427th Night Fighters Squadron in the Burma, China and India theatre. After the war, Jim married Theresa Marie Bennice (deceased in 1986) and they lovingly raised three children-Cathy, Steven and John. Jim worked with his father, Clarence, and his brother, George, in the family excavating business C.G. Fulkert & Sons. In the summers after work, Jim and his brother, George, enjoyed seine fishing in Lake Erie. He finished his working career as an operating engineer with Glenn Graffice & Son and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 18. Jim outlived most of his hometown friends, fellow workers and squadron buddies. Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Theresa. He is survived by his daughter, Cathy M. Bishop (Dennis), Steven J. Fulkert (Mary), John C. Fulkert (Laura), grandchildren: Mo Joseph, Eric, Marc, Todd, Anne, Erin, Adam, Maureen, Benjamin, Nicole, Thomas, Matthew, Megan and Mark and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by Louise Worthington his good friend of 27 years. Louise’s family was a second family for Jim: Cindy (Gary) Durdell, Dick (Janet) Rhode and Donn (Kim) Rhode. Jim was an accomplished woodworker, photographer, gardener and artist. He was a very loving and attentive father, friend, grandfather and great-grandfather. One of his proudest achievements was the honor of having his photos selected for the annual Davis Besse calendar. Jim and Louise (Sweetie) enjoyed playing cards, photographing many of the Ohio Counties Bicentennial Barns and spending time with their family and friends. Visitation for Jim will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton, where the funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2015.
