James M. Franks

James M. Franks, 69 years old, passed into eternal life on Dec. 22, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Grace, and brother Jack. Jim served in the U.S. Army for 2 years, then 6 years with the Army Reserves as a military policeman. Jim was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School in 1961, UT Community College. He graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in manufacturing technology. He also attended Wright State and the University of Toledo for Vocational Education. Jim was a lifelong learner. Jim had worked for Chrysler in Detroit, transferred to Toledo Machining in Perrysburg, then transferred again to Chrysler Tank Plant General Dynamics Land Systems. He retired from GDLS in 1996. After retirement, Jim worked briefly for Fruehauf Axle in Delphos, OH and Owens Illinois in Perrysburg. He then returned to Toledo to work for Washington Local Schools in various teaching capacities, retiring in 2005. Jim dabbled in Real Estate after receiving his license. His favorite place of employment was at Bedford Hills Golf Club, working in the range building. Jim had been an active member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers until 2005. He also volunteered for the Toledo Red Cross and was a color guardsman for Conn Weissenberger American Legion Post. He also served on the Toledo Workforce Investment Board. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Suzanne Sue; sons, Joseph Erica Arallano of Perrysburg, OH, Michael Carrie of Holland, OH, Mark Sheila of Clay Center, OH, James Angela Lopez East of Toledo, Jay Julie East of Maumee; daughters, Ann Doug Brown Middletown, DE, Michelle Doug Whitmore of Mason, OH, Lisa Tom Sheffield of Shelton, CT; 19 grandchildren; sisters, Mary Tom Belegrin, Pat William Mitchell of New Mexico, and Deb Greg Heban of Rossford, OH. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-8 PM at Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave west of Corey Rd. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Thursday at 9:00 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM Thursday. Interment will be private.
