His family is sad to inform you that James “Jim” W. Christlieb, adoring husband, loving father, goofy grandpa, avid canoer, and perhaps your UPS Man, passed away at age 73 on May 9, 2024. Jim was born in Toledo, Ohio to Loren and Ruth Christlieb on January 25, 1951. He attended Start High School where he played football and excelled on the Speech Team. In 1974, after serving in the Army National Guard, he made his family home in Napoleon, Ohio with the love of his life, Kathy (Potter) Christlieb. Jim first worked as a driver for Nickel’s Bakery, then was a proud UPS Man in the Liberty Center, Ohio area for over 30 years. He is survived by: Kathy; their two children, David Christlieb and Allison Davis (m. Jamie Davis); four grandchildren, Edith Christlieb, and Tatum, Porter, and Zeke Davis; his brother Doug Christlieb; his sister Carolyn Clevenger; his sister-in-law Sandy Wainscott; his brother-in-law James Potter (m. Becky Potter); and many loved nieces and nephews.
Jim regularly brightened the days of everyone he encountered, and was especially fond of his grandchildren, shooting his guns, and drinking a beer now and then. He was a prankster, never without a joke or an attempt to get a rise out of his wife. Jim was a gifted orator, who brough the house down at many a family or business gathering with his speeches. He was “one of the good guys” and never a “zero,” so long as you did not give him the “hairy eyeball” or try to make him “chew his cabbage twice.” His grandchildren will greatly miss waking up early with him, walking the family dog, shooting with him, and especially his “iron claw.” He will be dearly missed.
His family invites you to join them in a Celebration of Life on Friday, May 17, with visitation from 3-7 p.m., and a ceremony starting at 7 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, Ohio.
