James E. Cairns age 74 of Toledo passed away Thursday May 4, 2017 at the Ebeid Hospice Residence, Sylvania. He was born October 2, 1942 in Toledo to Ferna and Ina Mae (Meinhart) Cairns. Jim was a 1960 graduate of Woodward High School and a 1965 graduate of the University of Toledo where he received his Bachelors of Business Administration. A veteran of the US Army, he was honorably discharged in 1968. He was an office worker for Wonder Bread and then moved on to Nickels Bakery where he was a route salesman retiring in 2001 after 34 years of service. Jim was a member of the former Collingwood United Methodist church and played on many of their sports teams. He was a train enthusiast, a Detroit Lions and Tigers fan and enjoyed working in his yard where he was often seen with an unlit Swisher Sweet cigar in his mouth. Jim enjoyed keeping a journal recording his observations and opinions on a daily basis. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Donna Jean (Dutkiewicz) Cairns; and granddaughter Grace Ann Elekonich. Jim is survived by his wife Donna; children Jennifer (Richard) Reau, Melissa (Todd) Elekonich, Robert (Kim) Bahnsen, Randall (Lily) Bahnsen and Nicole (Jason) Bollinger; 11 grandchildren; brother Robert Cairns; and mother-in-law Helen Zeller. Friends will be received at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey) on Monday from 2-8 PM where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Toledo Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to the Michael J.
