James Jacob Bine

June 11, 1949 — January 13, 2026

James (Jim) Jacob Bine passed away suddenly, but peacefully, in his home, on January 13, 2026. He was born to Helene and Holly Bine on June 11, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Sylvania High School in 1967 and earned a degree in Computer Science from the University of Toledo.

Jim built a long and successful career in information systems, working at Owens-Illinois in various divisions in Toledo, California, and Shreveport. He later held positions with Nekoosa Packaging in Maumee, Ernst & Young in Toledo, and Dow Corning in Midland, Michigan, before serving as Director of Information Services at APS Billing Company in Toledo until his retirement in 2012. His retirement job was working for Morgan Transit, helping people get to their appointments.

On June 21, 1975, Jim married Karen Kirchner of Tiffin, Ohio. With Karen, he raised three children-Jennifer, Steven, and Greg - in Perrysburg, and enjoyed a loving marriage until her death in 2008. He later married Lynn Phillips on August 14, 2010. Jim and Lynn spent time together attending church activities, enjoying music, and gathering with friends to play cards. He was known among family and friends for his highly competitive-and impressive-Euchre skills.

Jim is survived by his wife, Lynn; his children Jennifer (Robert) Ohms, Steven Bine, and Gregory (Elizabeth) Bine; and his stepchildren, Matthew (Sara), Rebekah (Pete), Peter (Gretchen), and John (Sarah). He was a proud grandfather to Violet, George, Garrison, Grace, Ulric, Axel, Isla, Thomas, Molly, and Julia, and Ava and two more coming soon. He is also survived by his sister, Linda (William) Poe, and niece Katie, of Fairfax, Virginia. He is further survived by numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews from both Karen’s and Lynn’s families, all of whom were an important part of his life.

Jim loved sports, hunting and fishing but his greatest passion was his family. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and treasured family gatherings. In recent years, he greatly enjoyed annual family trips, including travel to Germany in 2023 to see his mother’s homeland and family there. Known for his great sense of humor, Jim kept those around him entertained and smiling. He found peace and joy at his lake house in Michigan, where he loved fishing and taking friends and family out on his beloved pontoon boat.

Jim was a devoted member of Knights of Columbus Council 7978 for nine years and a 4th Degree member for six years. In recent years, he stepped into a leadership role as Chancellor, serving when his council needed him most. In that capacity, he played an instrumental role in organizing council support for local outreach efforts, including Moms Mobile Mission and the Perrysburg Heights Community Center, helping with both resources and hands-on service. Jim was always willing to help wherever needed-whether making pancakes for the monthly scholarship breakfast, volunteering at the Coats for Kids Golf Outing, taking photographs, or quietly assisting behind the scenes.

Jim shared deep bonds of faith, service, and friendship, and his generous spirit touched more lives than he ever knew. He will be remembered always and missed beyond measure.
