James R. Bethel James “Jim” Richard Bethel, age 74, of Holland, Ohio, died Sunday, December 30, 2018 at his home with his loving wife, Jeanne, at his side. He was born December 9, 1944 in Toledo, Ohio to Frank and Mary Jane (Irwin) Bethel and later he married Jeanne Glowski on March 18, 1967. A graduate of Springfield High School, Jim served our country in the United States Army for over 20 years which included two tours in Vietnam where he earned a Purple Heart. He then went on to work as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service for nearly 20 years. He enjoyed golfing and carpentry, building 3 houses from blueprint to structure for himself, his sister and daughter.He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Jeanne; son, Matt (Becky) Bethel; daughter, Lara Bethel; grandchildren Benjamin and Luke Bethel; brother, Bob (Diane) Bethel; sisters, Mary Stacy and Patricia Bethel; nieces and nephews as well as Dean Cable who Jim often referred to as his “extra” son. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Frank “Dick” and Mary Jane. Friends will be received on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M. at Neville-Shank Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland, Ohio 43528 (419-865-8879).
