James F. Begell, age 86 of Toledo passed away Saturday, May 29 2021 in the University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor. He was born in Endicott, NY on August 22, 1934 to Richard G. and Anna (Carstens) Begell. He and his family moved to Toledo from Pontiac Michigan in 1942. He attended Cherry School and was a 1953 graduate of Macomber High School. While in grade school he was a Toledo Blade carrier from 1945-49. In high school he worked for Big Bear as a carry out and head stock person from 1949-54. In 1954 he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed in Reno Nevada, North Africa, Anchorage Alaska and remote duty on St. Lawrence Island. He was honorably discharged in 1958. After attending the University of Toledo he worked for Modern Hardwood Floors from 1959-61. In 1961 he became a firefighter with the Toledo Fire Department for 29 years retiring in 1990. At the same time he also worked for Kosier Hardwood Floors. Jim enjoyed trips to Florida, model trains and carpentry. Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phyllis Parmley; brother, Richard G. Begell, Jr.; and son, Robert G. Begell, he is survived by sons, James T. (Sue Cannon) Begell and John F. Begell; daughter, Laura M. Rood; grandchildren, Jimmy (Sarah) Begell, Veronica (Donnie) Wurtzel, Shelby Begell and Raven Begell-Long; great grandchildren, Luke Alexander, Annie Jane and Colton; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey) on Friday, June 4 2021 from 3-8 pm where the Toledo Fire Department will conduct Last Alarm services at 7 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 5 2021 at 11 AM in the funeral home with burial to follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
