Jacqueline Mathis

March 24, 1934 — May 23, 2021

Jacqueline “Jackie” (Cain) Mathis Jacqueline “Jackie” Mathis of Perrysburg died peacefully in her sleep at home May 22, 2021 joining her loving husband of 25 years, Jules, who preceded her in death in 2009. Born March 24, 1934 in Springfield, Ohio, to Osmer and Margaret Brockway, Jackie’s childhood took her to several cities and towns, including her favorites, Aurora, New York, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While in Philadelphia, she met and married Earl Cain (d. 2010) in 1953. They were married 23 years and had five children. Jackie is survived by three children, Stephen Cain (Maria-Rose) of Gaithersburg, MD, Rebecca Lewis (Curtiss) of Columbus, OH, and Ramona Bier (James) of Maumee, OH. Two children, Mark Cain (d. 1954) and David Cain (d. 1956), died as infants due to medical complications. Jackie faithfully and lovingly supported her children and grandchildren throughout life volunteering to help wherever she could, including the Glann School library, PTA, and Campfire Girls; St. Francis de Sales H.S. band boosters; Eagle Point Elementary computer lab; and Sunday School at Epiphany Lutheran Church. Attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, musical performances, “Grandparent Days” and graduations was a top priority. In the community, she volunteered many years as a marshal at the Jamie Farr Golf Tournament, for which she proudly told the story of the time she was “protection” for Charles Barkley. She also served as a docent at the Wolcott House in Maumee and was a gardener at 577 in Perrysburg. Over the years, Jackie was employed at Kroger (Reynolds Corner), the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, and NFO (National Family Opinion) in Northwood. After assuring that her children finish college, Jackie returned to college graduating from the University of Toledo at the age of 74 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Adult Liberal Studies. She was an avid reader throughout life, always curious, always inquisitive, and keenly followed world news and sports including her favorites: The Toledo Mudhens, the Toledo Rockets and OSU Buckeyes. Jackie loved traveling to visit family in central Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Michigan. She attended CedarCreek Church (South and Perrysburg campuses) where she enthusiastically served as a greeter and faithfully attended her Bible study groups. She always had pet dogs and/or cats, and loved to visit the Toledo Zoo. She is survived by three siblings, Louise Funderburgh, John Brockway, and Cherie Lowe. Two siblings, Stephen Brockway and Ed Sieffers, preceded her in death, and one, Lenora Keiser, followed her in death on May 23. Jackie is survived by eight grandchildren: David Holt, Joshua (Katie) Cain, Brendan Cain, Rachel Cain, Matthew Cain, Anthony Bier, Dominic Bier, and Maria Bier; and three great-granddaughters: Mila Holt, Maeve Holt, and Haley Cain. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to CedarCreek Church (cedarcreek.tv/give/) or The Victory Center (thevictorycenter.org), which was very helpful to Jackie in her fight against cancer in 2013. Funeral services to honor Jackie’s life will be held at CedarCreek Church, 29129 Lime City Rd. Perrysburg, Ohio 43551 on Saturday, May 29, 2021 with a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 10:30 a.m. Mask wearing by attendees is required. Burial will follow at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Sujkowski Walker Funeral Home, Rossford (419-666-1566). Online condolences may be left at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
