Jack Wolf was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Jack will be remembered as a very exceptional person. Jack was born on January 10, 1939 at St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo, OH. He was the son of Erwoood and Vivian Wolf. Jack grew up on the East Side of Toledo, Ohio. Jack was raised with two siblings. He had an older brother, Bill and a younger sister Nanette. Jack was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years. As a young boy, Jack had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. Jack was an active child who took part in CYO Basketball. However, to Jack, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends. A typical teenager, Jack had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1957. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers. Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, Jack enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. Later in life, he became friends with Bob Welsh, Dennie McHue and Bill Klingler. On February 4, 1959 Jack exchanged wedding vows with Jeanette Urbanyi at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church of Toledo, OH. Empathic and loyal, Jack was committed to making his new family happy. Jack worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Jack was blessed with four children, one son Timothy and three daughters, Jackie, Betsy and Amy. Another blessing for Jack was the gift of seven grandchildren, Daisy, Brad, Brian, Brody, Ben, Allison, and Macy. Fortunately, Jack enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Jack worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was Vice President of Retail Operations. He was employed for 45 years at Seaway Foodtown. Jack always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done. Jack found pleasure in sports. In high school, Jack played CYO Basketball. Jack was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Throughout his life, Jack was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. In high school, Jack was a member of the CYO. Jack was a man who took pride in upholding his beliefs. So it is little wonder that he took an active role in his community, He was a supporter of the Helping Hands of St. Louis (Toledo). Jack’s faith was important to him. He was a member of The Loyal Order of Moose. Jack enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included visiting his cottage at Vineyard Lake in Irish Hills, MI. Jack was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of his favorites was His dog, Moses. They were best friends for 12 years. When Jack’s retirement finally arrived in 2001, he was well prepared. In retirement, he found new pleasure in reading, drives, and relaxing at his vineyard lake cottage. As well as going to he grandchildren's sporting and school events. Even in retirement, Jack continued to stay in touch with his old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Jack was active in his new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered him. Jack passed away on July 24, 2014 at his residence. He fought colon cancer for three years. He is survived by children, Tim, Jackie, Betsy, Amy; sisters, Nanette and Stefanie; grandchildren, Daisy, Brad, Brian, Brody, Ben, Allison and Macy. Services were held at Epiphany of Our Lord Parish, St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel. Jack was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, Toledo, OH. Simply stated, Jack was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Jack leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Jack Wolf.
