Jack Charles Tanalski

February 7, 1929 — November 20, 2014

Jack C Tanalski, 85, of Maumee, OH passed away peacefully Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg after a brief and brave battle with lung cancer. Born in Toledo to Leonard Elsie (Chapman) Tanalski on February 7, 1929, he was the youngest of six children.  He attended Libbey High School graduating in 1947. On December 11, 1948 he married Phyllis Bogart of Findlay and she survives.  He met Phyllis at Strater Cleaners in Toledo.  They would have celebrated 66 years of marriage on December 11, 2014.  Jack Phyllis moved to Maumee to raise their family and never left.  He was a wonderful father and treasured times spent with family and friends.  Jack was a devoted Detroit Tigers fan. Jack worked for Prudential Insurance early in his career.  When he returned to the dry cleaning business, he attended the National Institute of Dry Cleaning in Silver Spring, MD in 1955.  He worked many years for Sanitary Cleaners in Maumee which was owned by his wife’s uncle.  In 1967, he fulfilled a career dream which was to own his own business.  He opened River Glen Cleaners on Glendale Ave in Toledo.  In time, he acquired the Sanitary Cleaners he had previously worked for.  He never retired from the profession he loved. He was a true people person.  Until this past summer and for the past 40 years, he worked side by side with his son, Chris and daughter, Kathy.  He considered working with his children a real blessing in his life. Jack was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church in Maumee; he was Maumee’s Outstanding Citizen in 1993; he was a past member of the Maumee Rotary; Maumee Chamber of Commerce past president and former board member; Maumee Uptown Business Association;  participated in the Maumee Summer Fairs and he twice made a run for Maumee City Council. In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Dennis) Parish and Kathy Weaver; 3 grandchildren, Emily, Carrie, Carson; and 5 great-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his son Chris on July 6th of this year. Family friends will be received on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 10:00 am at St Joseph Catholic Church, 104 W. Broadway St., Maumee, OH.  A short liturgical service will follow at 11:30 am.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, 30000 E River Rd, Perrysburg, OH 43551; or St. Joseph Catholic Church, 104 W Broadway, Maumee Ohio, 43537. The family would like to express special thanks to the caring nurses at Hospice in Perrysburg and to Father Keith Stripe of St Joseph’s Church.
