He stood within a few feet of President Franklin Roosevelt, Admiral Chester Nimitz, and General Douglas MacArthur once at a parade. After being discharged from the Navy, Jack returned to the Toledo area where he met the love of his life, Doris Segan, at the Coliseum Roller Rink. They were married on April 30, 1949. Jack treasured the opportunity to fly in a Ford Tri-Motor plane. He worked for Dole Pineapple before settling into a career as a mechanical engineer at Owens-Illinois. He became a senior project engineer after 25 years at O-I and retired in 1983. He was a member of the Golden Emblem Retirees Club at O-I. Jack is survived by his wife, Doris; sons, Neal, of Waldport, OR and Christopher, of Toledo; granddaughters, Varsanarani, Vanessa Ivy, and Kisori; grandson, Kisora; step-grandchildren, Surya, Ryan and Rachel; and great-granddaughters, Elin and Erin; step-great grandson, Luca.
