Jack Miller passed away June 5, 2014 after a hard fought battle against cancer. Jack was born on a snowy November 16th in 1932 to M. Lenore and Ronald N. Miller. He grew up in Toledo, attending DeVeaux Elementary School and graduating from DeVilbiss High School. Jack excelled at track and football at DeVilbiss, and it was there that he met his high school sweetheart, Marlene Wagar. They were married on December 31, 1952. Jack served in the United States Army from January 22, 1953 to December 22, 1954, and was stationed in Linz, Austria. Upon his return home he began working at his fathers accounting business, eventually taking it over when Ronald retired in 1974. After many successful years in business, Jack retired in 1991. An avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan, Jack enjoyed an active social life. He and Marlene enjoyed getting together with a wide circle of friends over the years. Many of these friendships have lasted for 50 years or more. Jack enjoyed flying and earned his private pilots license in 1975. He and Marlene made many trips in his Cessna 182, often starting the day flying somewhere for breakfast. Jack was a proud member of the Quiet Birdmen, a pilot organization. He was elected to the Board of trustees at Toledo Memorial Park in 1984, serving actively and on a consultant basis for 30 years. Jack was also an avid golfer, scoring two holes-in-one in the same round on July 3, 1990 at Ottawa Park Golf Course. But his greatest accomplishment by far was serving as primary caregiver for his beloved wife, Marlene, after a stroke in 2001 left her disabled. He was devoted to the love of his life, never letting his support waver, even as he battled cancer, undergoing radiation, surgery, and chemotherapy to combat the illness. Jack leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 61 years, Marlene; daughters, Leann Warren DeWitt of Sylvania, Susan Pete Gerhardinger of Maumee; son, Tom Rebecca of Seattle; grandchildren, Eric Gerhardinger, Sarah DeWitt Dr. Nathan Jud, Andy DeWitt, Rob Gerhardinger, Allison DeWitt, Laura Gerhardinger, and Sean Miller. Jack was preceded in death by his parents. The family invites you to visit with them on Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 1-5 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd.. Memorial contributions may be made to Ebeid Hospice Residence, 5340 Harroun Rd. Sylvania, OH 43560 or to a charity of the donors choice.
