Jack William Galliers

Jack W. Galliers, 92, of Perrysburg, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born in Toledo on October 13, 1918 to Theodore E. and Faith (Dearing) Galliers. He graduated from DeVilbiss High School and attended the University of Toledo for three years. In September of 1939, he went to work in the mailroom of Libby Glass and was there until August 1954 when he was chief clerk of the cost, payroll and bonus departments. During that period he was on military leave for four years, enlisting as a private in the Army Air Corps in December, 1941 and was released in December 1945 with the rank of Major. In March of 1947, Jack married Joan Breyfogle in Toledo, Ohio. In 1954 he joined Picton-Cavannaugh Insurance Agency as office manager and accountant and was later promoted to account executive and treasurer. He retired in 1976. He is survived by his daughters, Julie Galliers (Luis Polo) of Cadiz, Spain, Deborah Galliers of Perrysburg, Ohio and Suzanne (Jeffrey) Wittneben of Beavercreek, Ohio; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Brandi) Brown of Toledo, Ohio, Michelle (Wade) Dunlap of Dover, Ohio, Jeffrey Wittneben of Beavercreek, Ohio, Benjamin (Aya) Wittneben of Incirlik Air Base, Turkey and Joseph Wittneben of Beavercreek, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Johna Brown and Ocean and Oakes Wittneben; and sister, Bette Mell of Summit, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Galliers in 1962. In honoring Jack’s wishes there will be no visitation or local services. The family is planning private services in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. where his ashes will be placed with those of his wife, Joan, in a niche. The family suggests contributions to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 East River Road, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Michele “Speedy” Davenport and Heather Diemer and the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Kingston Residence of Perrysburg.
