Jack Devany, Md

John A. Jack Devany, M.D., age 83, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at his home in Sylvania. Jack was born March 5, 1929 in Akron, OH to Andrew and Beatrice Devany. He was a 1955 graduate of the Ohio State University College of Medicine and served in the Air Force following graduation from 1956-1958 as a flight surgeon. Jack was in private practice at Toledo Otolaryngology Group along with Drs. A. James Blanchard, Carlisle K. Parker, Jr. and William H. Willis. He was past-president of the Ohio State Medical Association 1990 and former head of the Academy of Medicine. Jack also served on many boards in Ohio and nationally throughout his career. He mentored and taught many resident doctors. Jack was an avid gardener and enjoyed helping other doctors. He also enjoyed his monthly lunches with other retired doctors. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Mueller Devany; siblings, Mary Rose and Edward Ceglar, Daniel and Elizabeth Devany, Thomas and Viola Devany, Fr. John Devany, C.P., Frank and Ann Marie Devany, Beatrice Devany, and Kathleen and Paul Mosher. He is survived by his children, Jeanne Chuck Cummings, John Janet Devany, Maureen C. Devany Mark Goodremont, Anne M. Robert Parsons, and Michael J. Devany Julie Reeg; grandchildren, Kitty and Lauren Devany; nieces, nephews, and other family members, too many to be named. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Westmoreland/CFM Group for many years of friendship and memories. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. Services will begin Monday at the funeral home with prayers at 10:30am followed by an 11:00am Funeral Mass at Gesu Catholic Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd., Toledo, OH. Interment will be private.
