Jack D. Colboth

Jack D. Colboth, age 76, died on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. Jack was born on February 19, 1934 in Stonefort, IL to Raliegh Colboth and Frankie Evelyn Colboth. He began his career working as a surveyors assistant for the Santa Fe Railroad in Chillicothe, IL. Jack went to work for the A. Bentley and Sons Company in 1955 when they were in Ottawa, IL building a plant for Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company. While with Bentley, he became a licensed Professional Surveyor in the State of Ohio. Jack remained with Bentley until 1971 serving in the positions of Field Engineer, Superintendent, and General Superintendent. He worked for Swinerton-Walberg in San Francisco until he accepted an offer from the Lathrop Company in 1974. He was with Lathrop until he took an early retirement in 1997. With Lathrop he served as Project Manager, Operations Manager, Vice-President of Operations, and Vice-President General Manager. He was involved in major projects for Libbey-Owens-Ford, Guardian Industries, Ford Motor Company, Honda, St. Vincent Hospital, General Motors, Owens Corning, Toledo Hospital, and Toledo Edison. During his career, he served for many years on the advisory committee for the Bowling Green State University School of Construction Management and Technology. He served on the executive board of the Toledo Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America including two terms as President. In 1998 the Construction Contractors Council honored him with an award in appreciation for his contribution and leadership to the construction industry. After a short time in retirement, he accepted a two year assignment with the Bostleman Corp. serving as Operations Manager. He was a past member of Highland Meadows Golf Club and in his retirement years he enjoyed playing the many fine golf courses in the area with his golfing friends. He married his first wife, Lucille Wallace in Pomona, Kansas in 1952. They had two children together, Susan M. Colboth and Sharon M. Colboth. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jean Conrad and Jo Ann Koehl; daughter, Sharon; and first wife, Lucy. He is survived by his loving wife, Carole Ott Colboth, whom he married in 1999; daughter, Susan Robert Matz of Brighton, MI; his brother, Gary Colboth of Long Beach, CA; step-daughter, Sally Ellinwood; step-grandsons, Lucas Smelser and Ben Juli Smelser. Friends may call on Friday at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. from 2-8:00pm. Burial services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Toledo-Lucas County Humane Society, 1920 Indian Wood Circle, Maumee, OH 43537 or the American Cancer Society, 740 Commerce Dr. Suite B, Perrysburg, OH 43551.
