Jack D. Bigelow, 87 of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 25, 1928 to David E. and Carrie S. (Hamer) Bigelow in Toledo, Ohio. Jack worked at the Toledo Blade for 43 years as a Mailer, along with his father, brother and two nephews who also worked at the Toledo Blade. He attended Walbridge Elementary and Libbey High School where he met and later married his high school sweetheart. As an avid outdoorsman, Jack loved working on projects on his farm and hiking through the adjacent woods. In addition to his farm projects Jack also enjoyed woodworking, and much of his handiwork could be seen in the country house he built, others that he remodeled and heirloom toys that he made for his family. He loved all family gatherings, as well as attending Sunday morning church services and events with his family at St. Lucas Lutheran Church where he was a member for many years. When asked on any given day how he was doing, he would simply say, “I’m wonderful,” and proceed to sing you a song portraying his love of music, especially big band tunes, and in early years by playing his guitar and his harmonica. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, brothers David E. and Robert Bigelow, sisters Mildred Eaton, Marjorie E. Carrothers, and Renza A. Calcamuggio. He is survived by his wife Gloria D. (Ellis) Bigelow, Son, Randy D. (Colleen M.) Bigelow, Daughter, Carrie S. (Kenneth D.) Herr, grandchildren, Hannah M. and Noah D. Bigelow, Brian D. (Lindsay A.) Herr, David A. Herr and three great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E.
