J. Edward Norman

J. Edward Jack Norman, 79, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away Sunday, June 01, 2008, at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, OH. Jack was born on February 14, 1929, in Toledo, OH, but raised in Gibsonburg, OH, to Merritt and Alice Aspaugh Norman. On September 18, 1971 in Bettsville, OH he married Linell K. Johnson and she survives. Jack served 20 years in the U.S.Army, 101st Airborne, Green Beret, retiring in 1967. He worked as a police officer in Gibsonburg, OH & Woodville, OH from 1967 1969. He retired from the Ohio Turnpike in 1989 after 20 years service. Jack was a Life Member of the V.F.W. Homer D. Gardner Post #2480, a former member of the David W. Leonard Aerie #2295, and a former member and officer of the Port Clinton Moose Lodge #1610. He organized the first V.F.W. in Swanton, OH. Jack liked remodeling homes, built doll houses, loved to fish, hunt and camp. He taught all of his nephews how to run a boat and fish. Jack was an avid animal lover. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include: Wife: Linell K. Norman of Port Clinton, OH; Daughter: Julie Keil of Columbus, OH; Son: Jack Norman Jr. of Florida; Daughter: Susan Bridges of Florida; Sister: Doris Smith of Rising Sun, OH; Brother: Donald Norman of Fremont, OH: Sister: Rose Norris of Sandusky, and many loving nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M., Friday, June 6, 2008, followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 P.M. at Solomon Lutheran Church, Woodville, OH. Pastors William Duty and Karl Ribbeck will officiate. Interment will be in West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg, OH with graveside military honors conducted by Port Clinton V.F.W. Memorial contributions in memory of Jack may be made to the Ottawa County Humane Society, the Ohio Veterans Home or Stein Hospice, Sandusky, OH.
