Mike Lewandowski, 65, of Oak Harbor and formerly of Maumee, died Friday, Nov. 16, after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patricia, and daughter, Ann David Armstrong of Austin, Texas; brothers Patrick Mary Pat McCarthy, Matthew Donna and their children Caroline, Madeline and Victoria of Toledo; and Jake Sonja of West Chester, Pa., and sister Cate Michael Velker of Nashville, Tenn. Mike was the oldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John R. Lewandowski of Toledo. He is also survived by an aunt, Kathy Driscoll, cousins Patrick McDaniel and Jim Lauri McDaniel, four brothers- and sisters-in-law, 11 aunts- and uncles-in-law, 52 cousins. Because Mike never met a stranger, he is also survived by a huge circle of longtime friends. At the age of 50, Mike earned a bachelors degree from Lourdes University. He worked with his brothers, Matthew and Patrick, at the family business, Lewandowski Engineers, which was established in 1916 by his great-grandfather and was responsible for much of the growth and development of Toledo. He also served as an appraiser for the Lucas County auditor, sold real estate and then returned to Lewandowski Engineers to work with his brothers. Mike loved the water and lived his mantra that a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work. Mike and his wife were avid boaters and enjoyed their home on the Lake Erie. A champion athlete and avid sports fan, Mike loved the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and Ohio State Buckeyes. For many years, Mike and his wife, who was from Michigan, hosted an annual all-day party the day of the big game. Mike was an active fundraiser for Wood County Special Olympics, and the family invites those who wish to honor Mike with a donation to this charity whose work he greatly admired. Visitation will be held from 3p.m-5p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life tribute Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory 165 East Water Street in Oak Harbor. The celebration will continue at the home of a family friend. Please email [emailprotected] for information. Online condolences can be shared with the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
