Isabella H. Mungons Schaefer, 95, of the Sunset House, Toledo passed away peacefully on June 2 with the aid of the wonderful staff at Sunset and the Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born on Christmas Day in 1914 in Glasgow, Scotland where many family descendants live today. Known as Bella to her many friends or Isa to old-country family, she resided for many years in Maumee with her husband, Donald, to whom she was married for more than 50 years. Mrs. Schaefer went to Lincoln School and then attended Scott High School, but her heart and loyalty went to Woodward where her high school sweetheart, Don, graduated. She worked briefly at Fanny Farmers in downtown Toledo, but the career of her life and devotion was wife and mother. Don and Isabel sang in the church choir at the former Rosewood Presbyterian Church near the Toledo Museum of Art. She was a beautiful soprano and loved to play the piano. Bella came to the U.S. when she was 9 with her mother. Her father, William Mungons, came earlier through Canada. She did not return to her Scotland home until much later in life with her husband. Together the Schaefers were very active in Northern Light Lodge, where Don was the Master, and the Maumee Order of Eastern Stars. They were affilitated with Maumee Methodist Church and later at Fairgreen Presbyterian. Her husband and late brother-in-law, Gene, worked for the now defunct Strong Electric on City Park. For many years, Isabel volunteered at St. Lukes Hospital Isabella is survived by her daughter Pam Jerry Kyle, grandson, Dave Graham of Chicago, Corey Graham, his wife Tracy and children, Chelsea and Hayden. Her grandsons loved to tease her, and they nicknamed her the cooking-baking grandma. She also has three step children and six great step-grandchildren, and three nieces and their families. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:30 pm 8:00 pm in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home at 501 Conant, Maumee where an Eastern Star services will take place at 7:00 pm .
