Isabel Ely Sim 1940-2007 SIM Isabel Y., MD Nov. 5, 1940 - Oct. 16, 2007 Dr. Isabel Ely Sim passed away on October 16, 2007, at Lake Park, Comfort Care. She was born in Manila, Philippines on November 5, 1940, the daughter of Paul and Marcela Sim. After graduating with a degree in Medicine from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines, she completed her internship in New Jersey and residency in New York. She served as Fellow in Cytogenetics at the Brooklyn Cumberland Medical Center, the Brooklyn Hospital. She practiced medicine in New York and West Virginia before moving to the Toledo area in 1975 to be closer to family. Dr. Sim was founder of and a senior partner in Maumee OB/GYN Associates, Inc. This clinic has the distinction of being the first of its kind in the area with an all female staff of 34. It remains the largest OB/GYN practice in the Toledo area. Dr. Sim was well known and respected for her innovative practices in the fields of obstetrics and gynecology, and for the personal care she provided to her patients. She was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her mother, Marcela of Holland, Ohio; nine siblings, Corazon Juanito Cheong of the Philippines, Fr. Benjamin Sim, SJ of the Philippines, Theresita Ching of Holland, Ohio, Dr. Abraham Dr. Lily Sim of Sylvania, Ohio, Nenita Frank Hing of Hawaii, Arturo Diane Sim of Nebraska, Evelyn Benedicto De Jesus of Chicago, Lillian Matthijs Van den Engh of Switzerland, and Paul, Jr. Belen Sim of the Philippines, and many, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Visitation will be at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., west of Corey on Friday, October 19 from 2-9 p.m. A testimonial in her honor will be held from 7-9 p.m. There will be a memorial Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2007, at the Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 5856 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo Private entombment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. For a lasting memorial, in lieu of flowers it is her wish to please consider the Dr. Isabel Sim Scholarship Fund to benefit needy children in the Philippines who wish to pursue a degree in the Sciences, especially relating to health care. The fund has been set up at Charter One, 5744 Southwyck Blvd. OH B621, Toledo, OH 43614.
