Ira Don Maze Sr., 97, of Toledo, OH passed away on Monday, March 28 at Landings of Oregon Assisted Living.
Ira was born May 3, 1924 in Johnsonburg, PA to Ralph and Sarah (Boyd) Maze. He served as a heavy artillery gun crewman in the 200th Field Artillery of the U. S. Army in WWII. Ira landed at Normandy on D Day plus 2 and fought across Europe until the war ended.
In 1955, he married the love of his life Marie C. Noll. Ira retired from Doehler Jarvis. Ira was an avid Detroit Tiger and Red Wing Fan. He and Marie supported all hockey teams that played at the Toledo Sports Arena.
Ira served on the Lucas County Burial Corps for over 8 years. Ira was a member of Walbridge VFW Post 9963 where he spent many happy hours with his friends and family.
Left to treasure his memory and love are his son Ira Don (Ann) Maze Jr, grandchildren Denise (Ben) Whitty, Sarah (Jacob) Tackett and Alex (Laurie) Maze, 4 great grandchildren, stepchildren Gladys Shrewsbury and Jack (Jane) Buck, step grandchildren, additional family and friends too numerous to name.
Ira was preceded in death by wife Marie, son Michael, stepchildren Donna Fraley, Larry McCarthy and Sandra LaFountaine, siblings Arlene Gobles, Dorothy Abplanalp and Roland Maze.
A private burial service will be held.
