Inger Stevelt, 93, of Martin, Ohio, formerly of Logan, Ohio, died Wednesday evening, September 25, 2013, at her home. Inger was born in Denmark March 9, 1920. She immigrated to the United States in 1939. After raising four children, she began her second career in the 1970s as an artist. She sculpted marvelous figures of animals, unicorns and dragons, gnomes and trolls, and made planters, all from red Ohio clay. She supported herself with her artwork until she was 80 years old. She enjoyed travelling and often went back to the old country. Age was not a problem: she went on her last overseas journey at the age of 91. This shows her will to keep family bonds strong, as well as an extraordinary strength of body and mind. She stayed in touch with family and friends in four different countries, happily using e-mail and Skype as soon as that technology was available. She was the hub of a far-flung network of people, which is now at risk of dissolving. In her later years, she kept busy with tending her flowerbeds and yard in the spring and summer, embroidering and knitting in the winter. She read many books and magazines and loved a good movie. Her door was always open to us. Ingers life was a long and fulfilling one, and then she got tired and left it with her characteristic good humor, grace and peace of mind. Inger is survived by sons, Tom, and Kim, and daughters, Linda and Sally, along with eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren and sister, Ellen Mathiasen. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Sophia Stevelt and great granddaughter, Haley Stevelt Mitchell. The family would appreciate a flower or tree planted in her memory in lieu of flowers or charitable donations. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory of Genoa has handled arrangements.
