Howard V. Sommers

Our dear uncle, Howard V. Sommers, Toledo, Ohio passed away Wednesday March 17, 2010 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. Howard was born on January 13, 1921 in Toledo to Edward and Dora Heitman Sommers. He was very close to his older brother, Robert E. Sommers. Howard graduated from Arlington Grade School, Libbey High School and the University of Toledo with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Haughton Elevator, Kaighin and Hughes, Paulin and Gulf Oil Refinery. Howard loved golfing with his buddies, playing cards, fishing and growing tomatoes. He is survived by his nephews, Robert E. Susan Sommers, Benjamin H. Katie Sommers and Brian D. Sommers; nieces, Deborah A. Sommers, Susan K. Robert Burmeister Sommers and Elizabeth A. David Matty; 6 great nephews and nieces and 2 great great nephews and nieces; and cousins, Janice Becker, Joseph Frayer, George Frayer, Sandra Swisher and Susie Trapp. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Esther; brother, Robert and nephew, William H. Sommers. We would like to thank Mike and Cindy Miller, Dutch and Henrietta Dreher and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their loving care and concern. Howard greatly appreciated the love and care provided by Debbie, Susan, Bob and Bob in his final years. Funeral services will be private. Entombment will be in Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery.
