Howard Walter Russell

Howard “Corky” Russell, age 80, unexpectedly passed away on April 7, 2022 as the result of injuries received during an automobile accident.  Howard was born on April 6, 1942 to Walter and Catherine (Byrd) Russell.  Charles Glander, his mother’s second husband, raised Howard and his sister, Susan, as his own children.  Howard married Erika Bernath on May 12, 1962 and together they raised three children.

Howard was a 1960 graduate of Central Catholic High School.  After graduating, he briefly worked at Textileleather before embarking on his lifelong career in the trucking industry.  He began driving trucks for Jones Transfer, along with his brothers-in-law Frank and Ernie Bernath.  He went on to become an owner operator before closing out his career with Roadway Express.  In retirement he enjoyed his two passions – golf and fishing.  He split his time between Ohio and Florida to ensure he could have the year-round opportunity to golf.  His Nettle Lake, Ohio home allowed him to enjoy both fishing and golfing.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his son, Robert who passed away in January 1994.  Left to cherish his memory is the mother of his children, Erika Russell, and children, Janette (Thomas) Gee and John Russell.  He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Erika (David) Wojkiewicz, Stephen (Rachel) Gee, Jessica (Shawn Pottker) Russell, Zachary Russell and Victoria (Josh Parish) Russell and seven great-grandchildren, Thomas, Stella, Henry and Lucy Wojkiewicz, Alexander Gee, and Savannah and Olivia Parish.  He is also survived by his sisters, Susan (Michael) Mitchell, Nancy (Kerry) Morley and Sandy Zaciewski, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
