Howard Lee Mullens

May 12, 1936 — January 27, 2017

Howard Mullens passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 27 after a lengthy battle with heart and lung disease. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Howard was born in Pineville, West Virginia to William Mullens and Lela (Morgan) Mullens-Worley. About the age of 8, his family moved to Gypsum, Ohio and in 1959, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he spent two years in Germany. After more than 30 years of employment, he retired from General Motors/New Departure Hyatt in 1999. He was a hardworking, dedicated husband and father who worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He enjoyed working in his yard. Howard had a great sense of humor, a kind, caring heart, and never met a stranger. He could often be heard introducing himself as The Old Fart. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Emily in 2007, and sister, Mary Lou Rodgers. He leaves behind his children Karla (Greg) Carson, Tim Beverly, Sandra (Oscar) Cook, Teddy (Debera) Mullens of Sandusky, Donna Mullens, Sharon (Stanley) Cutcher, and Crystal (Frank) Wheeler, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers and sisters James (Barbara) Mullens of Florida, Linda Martin of Sandusky, and Brenda (Art) Gustafson of Vickery, William (Maria) Mullens of Port Clinton, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2017 in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Port Clinton, OH with a memorial service conducted at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in Jake Jones Cemetery, Keplar, TN at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Howard may be given to the American Cancer Society.
