Howard Lloyd Harris, Sr.

Howard Lloyd Harris Sr, age 91, of Perrysburg, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2017 at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Bowling Green. Howard was born January 30, 1926 in Lamar, Indiana to Earl & Velma (Hinton) Harris. He was the 6th of 10 children. Howard joined the United States Army and was medically discharged August 25, 1946 after having Malaria while in Japan. He married Louise Owens (Saylor) on November 10, 1948 in Stoney Ridge, Ohio (the two later divorced). Howard and Louise had four children together; Howard “Butch” (Ruth) Harris, Ronald “Ron” (Luann) Harris, Judith Miller, and Terri (Gerald Shiffert) Zuhlsdorf. He later married Olive (Hastings) Harris. Howard worked in the Mold Shop at Libbey Owens Ford for over 35 years, retiring in 1988. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and garden extraordinaire. He enjoyed boating, outdoors, playing solitaire, watching old western movies and telling stories about growing up on his family farm. He also enjoyed canning, making homemade pies and his famous bacon gravy. Howard is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Olive Harris, several siblings and one grandchild, Kimberlee. Howard is survived by his children; Butch, Ron, Judi and Terri; brother, Roger and sister, Ruth; grandchildren Jennifer, Ricky, Ron, Ben, Melissa, Steven, Kari and Daniel, and he leaves to cherish 13 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 4-8 P.M. at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133), where funeral services will held Friday, August 25, 2017 at 10 A.M. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park.
