Hope Elizabeth Burkin

Hope Burkin, 17, of Perrysburg, was granted her angel wings on June 7th, 2017 surrounded by her family. Hope’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her knew she lived each day to the fullest. Hope was born May 9, 2000 in Toledo, Ohio to Donald and Danielle (Miller) Burkin. She had just completed her Junior year at Perrysburg High School, where she was active in American Sign Language (ASL) Club and musical theater. Hope was an active member of St. John XXIII youth group and loved helping with church activities. She also spent her time volunteering at the Way Public Library and participating in the Special Olympics, excelling in track and swimming. Although Hope’s illness (Fanconi Anemia) challenged her, she possessed strength, perseverance, and an ability to overcome incredible odds. With her courage and a smile that was contagious, she led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. She enjoyed singing, playing her ukulele, watching home movies, spending time with her family (watching Americas Funniest Videos) and practicing ASL. With Hope’s passing we remind others that her life is one to be celebrated. She will forever remain in our hearts. Hope is survived by her loving parents, Danielle and Donny; sisters, Grace and Clara; brother, Isaac; grandparents, Don and Kathy Burkin and Bob and Sue Miller; aunts, Sandy (Mark) Wallach, Nicki (Zak) Cordes and uncles, Eric Burkin and Jim Burkin. Friends will be received from 2:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH 43551 (419-874-3133) where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 P. M.. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at St. John XXIII, 24250 Dixie Hwy, Perrysburg, OH 43551 with burial to follow in Fort Meigs Cemetery.
