Homer L. Lengacher, 93, of Catawba Island, passed away at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. He was born on December 29, 1913 in Sardis, Monroe County, OH the son of Albert and Clara Lengacher. On October 18, 1947, he was married to his beloved wife, Mary Cox Mainous in Norwood, OH, who preceded him in death in 1976. Homer served in the 2nd Army during the Second World War, serving in the European theatre. He was awarded the Bronze Star, The European Campaign Medal, The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, WWII Victory Medal and The Good Conduct Medal. During his long career at Standard Products in Port Clinton, he was kindly referred to as Sarge. He was a long time member of the Elks Lodge #1718 and the V.F.W. Homer D. Gardner Post #2480, both of Port Clinton. Homer and Mary were long time members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Port Clinton. Homer is survived by his loving Son: Ronald Rosemary Mainous of Catawba Island and Daughter: Betty Duane Young-Bryant of Oak Harbor; Grandchildren: Harry Burks, Sandra Fred Schnoor, Margaret LaValle, Jamie Mainous, Robin Mainous and Jennifer Campos; Granddaughter-In-Law: Bonnie Young; Great-Grandchildren: Dr. Kimberly Burks, Ryan Burks, Rick Dr. Shelley Schnoor, Melissa Schnoor, Victoria Matt Wolfe, Casey Del Vesco, Tony LaValle, Billy Young, Mario Campos, Sebastian Campos, and Nicholas Mainous; Great-Great-Grandchildren: Noah Schnoor, Gabriel Schnoor and Matthew Wolfe and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Sophia Rush, Pearl Dally, Katherine Murphy, Carrie Murphy and Sylvia Lengacher; brothers: Ray Lengacher and Ted Lengacher; grandson: George Young. Visitation will be 10:00AM to 1200PM, Friday, October 26, 2007 in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, Port Clinton, OH. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Bruce Batchelor-Glader at 12:00PM following visitation. Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery where military graveside services will be performed by the V.F.W.
