Herman Paul Morgan

April 9, 1932 — March 11, 2017

Herman Paul “Bud” Morgan passed away on March 11, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Bud was born on April 9, 1932 in Genoa, Ohio to Paul and Minnie Morgan. Bud had two brothers Don and Jack, and two sisters Alice and Judy, all who have preceded him in death. He had three daughters with his first wife, Doris. Sherry VanCamp, Debi (Dan) Schwamberger and Shelly (Stuart) Wilcox. When Della came into his life in 1976 he became “Steppie” to Della’s five children, Daniel, Patricia, Chris, Joey and David. Between the blended families he has seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren, all of whom he has been a wonderful “Papa” to. Bud was named after his dad’s best friend Herman Crooks, and middle name came from his dad. In grade school he was given the nickname Bud and it stuck with him forever. Bud graduated from Waite high school in 1950 and then he went into the US Naval Reserves. He was called into active duty in October, 1951 and served two years in the Harbor Defense Unit to finish his four years. Bud worked at Libbey Owens Ford East Broadway Plant from May 1950 until his retirement in 1987. He also delivered Meals on Wheels where he met and befriended many homebound people. He has belonged to and held offices in several organizations including the Masons, American Legion, Rossford Eagles and The Latino Club. He joined Harbor View Yacht Club after purchasing his boat, the “B’Della.” Then, like all boaters, in 1991 he began looking for a bigger boat. He found his 38ft Chris Craft Flybridge Cruiser the “El Coqui” in Greensport Island. That led to his best ever boating adventure. He, Della and their four friends piloted it home. The trip took ten days and was a ton of fun. Bud loved to have fun! As an active member in HVYC, he served as Harbormaster in 1986, Rear Commodore in 1987-88, Vice Commodore in 1989, Commodore in 1990, AYC Rear Commodore in 1993, AYC Vice Commodore in 1994, and AYC Commodore in 1995. He served on all committees whenever asked and was a big part of growing and prospering HVYC. Of course, he was loved by all. The last two years he and Della snow-birded to Tucson to visit their daughter Debi. They had a great time spending a month each year enjoying the sunshine and Debi’s family. Their favorite song was Frank Sinatra’s “I did it my way…” and they did. Bud lived his life to the fullest right up to the diagnoses of lung cancer in November of last year. He is loved and will be missed by all who knew him. Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon, OH (419-691-6768), where an AYC Blue Gavel Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. with a Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest a donation to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
