Herman Joseph Gase

Herman Joseph Gase, 86 passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Herman was born on May 22, 1931 in New Reigel, OH, to Norman and Clarene (Schreiner) Gase and moved to Monclova in 1942. He graduated from Monclova High School in 1949 and joined the United States Army where he was a Staff Sergeant serving in the Korean War. After his discharge from the Army, he returned to Monclova where he married Emma Bermingham in 1956 and raised their six children. He worked at Chrysler Jeep as a mechanic for over 44 years, retiring in 1996. His true love and passion was farming. Herman had a farm in Monclova that he took pride in and has since passed it to his son, Jim. He felt a significant pride for his community. He was a founding member of the Monclova Township Fire Department in 1961, where he became a volunteer fire fighter and an EMT, retiring in 1999 after serving 38 years. He was also on the Monclova Township Zoning Board and served as chairman for many years. Herman was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Maumee, OH where he served as an usher. He also served as president for the Monclova Democratic Club for several years. Herman is survived by his children; Sandy Reinhard (Gary), Randy (Joyce), Don, Jim (Chandra), Bill (Mary), and Lori Grice (David); 15 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Teet and Joyce Mominee; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma; parents, Norman and Clarene Gase; sister, Erma Jean Boyd; and granddaughter, Kayla. Visitation will be held on Thursday February 1, 2018 from 2:00-8:00 PM at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, with a Funeral Mass on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Maumee, OH. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The family prefers memorial donations to be made to Monclova Fire Department,4395 Albon Road Monclova, OH 43542.
