Herbert Hoover Roy

Herbert Roy, age 81, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2015 at his beloved childhood home in Laneville, WV. Born to Lorenzo Dow Roy and Blanche J. (Reed) Roy on November 21, 1933. he grew up on a farm in Laneville, WV and graduated from Davis High School. Following high school, Herb served his country honorably in the Air Force and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. Upon discharge he joined family in Toledo and began working at Libbey Glass. He retired in March of 1989 with his best friends, Fred Gutshall and Larry Stickles. Between the three, they had over 100 years of service. After retirement, Herb spent most of his time at his childhood home in West Virginia. He loved the old home place and was happiest sitting on the porch surrounded by his beloved mountains. Herb married his childhood sweetheart, Janet J. Judy, on February 18, 1957 and was happily married for 43 years. She preceded him in death on August 1, 2000. Herb was also preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo D. and Blanche J. (Reed) Roy; sister, Evelyn Roush; brothers, Jimmy, John, Lorenzo (Eston), Gordon, and Calvin Roy. Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Margaret Fisher; daughter, Dorothy (Dr. Rex) Figy; son, Bradley (Joyce) Roy; and grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher, and Katherine Figy and Lauren and Chad Roy. Family and friends will be received at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. Toledo, OH 43623 (west of Corey Rd.) on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M.
