Herbert F. Miller

Herbert F. Miller, age 98, passed away peacefully into the presence of the Lord, surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Kingston Residence of Sylvania. The son of Frank and Anna Albert Miller, he was born on November 11, 1915, in Jackson, OH. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1933 where he was salutatorian of his class. Herb was also a graduate of Springfield Business College and attended Sinclair College in Dayton, OH. After serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII, Herb began working for the Dayton Power and Light Company where he eventually became Accounting Supervisor. It was during this time that Herb and his wife were instrumental in founding Cornerstone Baptist Church in Springfield where they were charter members. After retirement, they moved to Toledo from Springfield, OH in 1993 to be closer to family. He was a member of First Alliance Church and Gideons, International. Herb was a natural musician and served as a pianist for various groups throughout his life. He was also a soloist and church choir director for many years. Herb had a passion for golf and among his many hobbies were fishing, hunting, gardening, and astronomy. Herb was married to Lois Beam of Wilmington, OH in 1937 and she preceded him in death. He is survived by five children, Nancy Bruce MacPherson of Carol Stream, IL, Marily Bill Schneck of Toledo, David Peggy Miller of Eden Prairie, MN, Marty David Shold of Solon, OH, and Jane Jack Evola of Lambertville, MI; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brother, Dean Miller; and many nieces and nephews. Herb was also preceded in death by two brothers and one granddaughter. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the Kingston Residence, Sylvania and Senior Independence Hospice for the excellent care they provided Herb. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8:00 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at First Alliance Church, 2201 Monroe St. Toledo, OH 43604. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Springfield, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to First Alliance Church or Gideons, International Toledo North Campus, P.O. Box 8615 Toledo, OH 43623. Online condolences may be shared at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
