Herbert H. Lueke, 95, of Port Clinton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor, OH. On his last day, when daughter Pat asked if he was scared, Herb said, There is nothing to be afraid of. Herb was born July 23, 1918, in Woodville, the son of Frederick J. and Rica Finn Lueke. On July 28, 1945, in Edmonton, Canada, Herb married Margery A. Welsh and she preceded him in death in 1983. He remarried on May 6, 1984, in Port Clinton, to Joyce E. Russell and she also preceded him in death in 1994. Herb worked as an electrician and welder at Martin-Marietta in Woodville for over 40 years, retiring in 1984. He was a veteran who served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Herb was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, and a lifetime member and past commander of American Legion Post #455 of Woodville, member of the church council at Solomon Lutheran Church in Woodville, lifetime member and past commodore of Nugents Canal Yacht Club, and a past commodore of the International Blue Gavel. He also enjoyed attending the mens prayer breakfast at Trinity United Methodist Church in Port Clinton, woodworking, gardening, fishing, and the Detroit Tigers. His quiet strength, dependability, positive attitude, good humor, and gift for graciously accepting whatever challenges came his way endeared Herb to his family and many friends. Survivors include: daughters: Donna Lueke of Marblehead and Dr. Patricia Michael Van Kley of Perrysburg; son: Richard Beth Ann Lueke of Bradner; stepdaughters Vicki Lynn Martin and Jacque Russell, both of Denver, CO; niece Marita McKeehan; grandchildren Alicia Lueke, Mikaela Adam Uhlman, Megan Thomas Conrad and Misty Hannigan; step grandchildren: Dr. Ted Dr. Jennifer Norman, Mark Keira Norman, Dr. Wendy Norman, Daniel Van Meter and Christopher Van Meter; great-grandchildren Ava and Alice Uhlman and Kaylee Kern and 11 step great-children. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, wives and sisters, Edna McKeehan and Martha Lueke. Visitation will be from 9 11 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014, at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St, Port Clinton, where the funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. A Celebration of Life luncheon will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Nugents Canal Yacht Club, Port Clinton. Graveside committal services will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Westwood Cemetery, Woodville, with military graveside honors. Memorial contributions in memory of Herbert may be given to the Salvation Army or Peace Lutheran Church.
