Herbert L. Gross

Herbert L. Gross of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away peacefully at Otterbein Portage Valley, Pemberville, on July 8, 2017 at the age of 91. Herb was born to John and Anna Gross on the family farm in eastern Fulton County in 1926. He worked the land throughout his life, both on the farm and with a home greenhouse and a bountiful fruit and vegetable garden. Herb was a natural craftsman who could build or fix almost anything and was employed for over 30 years by The Andersons as a laborer for the Grain Division in Maumee, Ohio. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served for one year in post-war Germany and was a member of St. Rose parish in Perrysburg for nearly 60 years. He enjoyed golf, snowmobiling, crewing for his son Steve’s hot air balloon and finding that next free fallen tree to build his massive firewood pile. His sport of choice was baseball and he was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan. Herb was preceded in death by his wife Virginia in 1999 after 50 years of marriage and by their son Michael in 2001. He is survived by sons Ron (Amy) of Swanton, Rick (Cindy) of Pewaukee, WI, Steve (Susan) of Pemberville, Tim (Susan) of Fallbrook, CA, daughters Nancy (Bob) Seybold of Toledo and Karen (Greg) Bakies of Perrysburg, along with 19 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Visitation will be at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home in Maumee, Ohio on Thursday, July 13 from 4 to 8 p.m. Additional visitation will take place at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, Ohio on Friday, July 14 from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Mass 11 a.m. with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
