Helen J. Womack

Helen J. (Burdo) Womack age 89 of Maumee, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Maumee on March 16, 1927 to Ralph and Lila May (Wicks) Burdo. She was a 1945 graduate of Maumee High and then earned her Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Bowling Green State University. Helens teaching career began at Monclova School from 1949-1951; Maumee City Schools from 1954-1963; Washington Local from 1963-1969 and Anthony Wayne Schools from 1969 until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Maumee and its Altar Guild; Sweet Adelines, Toledo Chapter and the Over the Hill Gang (Helens high school friends). Helen especially enjoyed music but her family was her life. She will be dearly missed. Surviving are her children, William R. (Karen) Womack, Peggy (Dan) Buckland, David (Ann) Womack, Robin Womack, and Tim (Lori) Womack; daughter in-law, Janet Womack; 19 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings, Laura Sherrouse, Marilyn (Roger) Dean and Dick (Kay) Burdo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Gerry; sisters, Thelma Sechler, Virginia Burdo, Naomi Bryant and brother, Fred Burdo. Family and friends will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 3-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 10:00 AM St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 310 Elizabeth St., Maumee. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
