Helen J. Roberts

Helen J. Roberts, 90, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022, in Toledo Hospital after a brief illness. Helen was born in River Rouge, MI in 1931, the only child of Hubert and Marjorie (Toole) Roberts.

She began her 30-year career with Owens-Illinois in the Detroit plant, then moved on to the Milan, MI plant before transferring to the Toledo headquarters in the mid 80’s. Her increased responsibilities in the accounting area reflected her competence and dedication. Helen enthusiastically became a Buckeye but never waivered in her love for the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Lions, and perhaps was most enthusiastic about the college “Team Up North”.

Upon retirement in 1986 she began volunteering at the Wolcott House, the Toledo Museum, and for over 18 years at the LPGA golf tournament.

Travel was an integral part of Helen’s life. While it was always enjoyable to go with friends, if she started a trip alone, she had new friends when she returned. Her travels included many parts of the world: Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Bali in addition to countless cruises.

Her love of sports included participation as well as observing. Helen played golf well into her 80’s. Most recently in her home at The Woodlands she showcased her golfing skill through the Wii golf game. She had a marvelous memory and often recalled the annual golf trip to Myrtle Beach with friends which included a lot of fun, food, laughter, and even some golf.

Helen lived life her way and truly enjoyed it! Friends were cherished and included were several four-legged buddies that will certainly miss her many acts of kindness. Left to cherish Helen’s memory are several cousins and countless friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church, 4225 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the church or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Walker Funeral Home.
