Helen Margaret Riffner, 91, of Toledo, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Parkcliffe Alzheimer’s Facility. She was born on December 24, 1925 to Fannie (Moore) and Alva Griffith. On December 28, 1946 she married Donald D. Riffner. Together they celebrated 43 years of marriage until his death in 1990. Don and Helen loved to fish on Lake Erie, play cards, and most of all loved spending time with their family. In 1988 they purchased a cottage in Reading, Michigan, where family and friends gathered every weekend. Helen’s infectious smile was always there when her family was near. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and infant sister, Mary. She is survived by her sons, Don (Tina) Riffner of Oregon, OH, Bill (Cheryl) Riffner of Bowling Green, OH; grandchildren, Todd (Nicole) Riffner, Jennifer (Nick) Rauch, Brett (Megan) Riffner, Keith (fiancée McKenzie Whiteman) Riffner; great-grandchildren, Ava and Audrey Rauch, Parker and Owen Riffner, and Hadley Riffner. She is also survived by her lifelong friend Alice (Emerson) Gilley. Friends will be received on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133). Burial will be private in Fort Meigs Union Cemetery. The family would like to thank Parkcliffe for the compassionate care Helen received throughout her illness. Because of Helen’s love of dogs, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name be made to the Wood County Humane Society or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
