Helen Joseph Diethelm

Helen Josephine Diethelm July 12, 1926 December 28, 2011 Helen was born to Herman I. and Helen Mominee in Toledo, Ohio. She attended Rosary Cathedral elementary school and St. Ursula Academy. After graduation, she attended Mercy School of Nursing in Detroit. She was a nurse at the Merrill Palmer Institute in Detroit and then moved back to Toledo to marry James M. Diethelm, M.D. She worked as a nurse for her husband and her father-in-law- Dr. Rudolph Diethelm, in their family practice office. Helen volunteered for St. Vincents Hospital and started the Candy Striper program there. She was also President of the Chappuis Society at St. Francis de Sales High School and a Mobile Meals volunteer for many years. She enjoyed being an 18 hole golfer at the Inverness Club and spending time with her family at the Lake. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Margaret McDonough, Mary Lou Crosson, Jeanne Dack, and Charles Mominee. She is survived by her husband, Dr. James M. Diethelm; children, Debra J. Monagan Tom, Dr. James D. Diethem Julie, and Diane Goodwin John; grandchildren, Tom Monagan, III Bridget, James Monagan Carrie Ann, Meg Monagan, Hallie Diethelm Caladarone Antonio, Dr. Jessica Diethelm, Melissa Diethelm, Dr. Matthew L. Goodwin Dr. Mackenzie Bear Goodwin, Paige Goodwin, and Katherine Goodwin; as well as seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd., on Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Gesu Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd. at 10 a.m., on Saturday, December 31. The graveside service will be private. The family would like to thank Friends of the Family for their excellent care.
