Betty, more lovingly known by family and friends as Betty Boop passed away on April 26, 2013 at the age of 89. She was born on November 13, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio to Helen Bresnahan and Henry Thomas Kiel. Betty attended Notre Dame Academy and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1941. On March 6, 1943, Betty married the love of her life, Dr. William R. Carlson at St. Annes Church. They celebrated each anniversary dancing to their favorite song Watch What Happens. Their love created 4 children Ron, Connie, Tom and Mary Beth. Betty was very proud of her children and grandchildren, and taught them the importance of family and living life to the fullest. Betty was employed by the Department of Agriculture in Washington DC, and as an administrative assistant for several Toledo attorneys. Betty and Bill were charter members of Christ the King Church and the Altar & Rosary Society. They enjoyed memberships at Brandywine Country Club, Maumee Elks, North Cape and Maumee River Yacht Clubs. Listening to music was their favorite pastime, and they were avid supporters of the Toledo Jazz Society and musicians throughout the Toledo area. Betty was a former member of the Parkview Hospital Auxiliary, Toledo Botanical Gardens, Toledo Art Museum, and she enjoyed playing golf on leagues at Brandywine CC and Ottawa Park. Betty is survived by Ron Linda Carlson of Tampa, FL, Connie Scott Gallacher of Virginia Beach, VA, Tom Dr. Monica Kennedy Carlson of Cincinnati, OH and Mary Beth Greg Roe of Holland, OH. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Kathy Jeff Mielke, Ron Carlson, Jr., Ryan Carlson, Captain Hunter Gallacher, Adam Erin Kendrick Carlson, Will Carlson, Megan Tom Wells, Emily Carlson, , and will be greatly missed by her buddy and great-granddaughter Larkin Mielke. The family would also like to thank her special caregiver, Bonnie Bone. Visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. on Wednesday, May 1st from 4-8 pm and Thursday, May 2nd from 1-3 and 5-8 pm. Prayer service will be held Thursday at 7pm. Funeral services will begin at 9:15 am Friday in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass at 10 am at Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Toledo Jazz Society, 4303 Talmadge Rd. Ste 103, Toledo, OH 43623.
