Hedwig Rose Stack

Hedwig Harriet Rutkowski Stack 93 died on July 18, 2013 in Maumee, Ohio. She was born January 4, 1920 in Northwest Ohio to Cecelia and Joseph Rutkowski.The family moved to several areas in Northwest Ohio while Harriet was a child. During World War II Harriet worked at the former Auto-Lite and after World War II married Robert Stack in February, 1946. She volunteered for local church organizations and as a scout leader. After her four daughters were older she went back to work for Mercy Hospital as a nurses aide she loved being with patients and late into her 80s often talked about assisting others again in a hospital setting. She fondly recalls how back in the days it was no small feat to take care of 20 patients a day. Harriet loved traveling and talked about her trips to Florida, Hawaii and most recently, at age 90, a trip to Rome, traveling by herself to meet her grandson in Italy. She loved tending roses and her familys favorite was her city-chicken, meatballs and sweet and sour cabbage prepared for the holidays. Her hobby was sending cards to her family and friends and she took great care in selecting just the right note. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband Robert, parents Cecelia and Joseph, sisters Leocadia Lillian and Virginia; brothers Henry, Leo, Vincent and Joseph and son-in-law Casimir Nowak Jr. She is survived by daughters Patricia Nowak Stephen Roberts, Carol Jim Roberts, Nancy Alan Abrams and Sharon Howard Syroka and sister Cecelia Tomaszewski. Her grandchildren include Martin Heather Nowak, Laura Douglas Glover, Justin Kelly, Amanda and Jacob Syroka; Ryan and Kyle Roberts; Nicolas Renee Stack and Allanah Abrams. She has eleven great-grandchildren - Gage Fitzpatrick; Liam and Rae Glover; Keegan, Lexie, Breana, Gabriella and Nathaniel Syroka; Alexandra Nowak and Robert and Annabelle Stack. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Swan Pointe Care Center in Maumee for their excellent care and dedication. Visitation will be at Walker Funeral Home, W. Sylvania Avenue on Monday, June 22 from 2-8 PM. Services will begin at the funeral home at 10:00 AM with a funeral mass to be held at St. Josephs Church in Sylvania, Ohio. Graveside services will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Johns Jesuit High School or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
