Hazel Frances Beat

Hazel Frances Beat, 98, of Maumee, OH passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Elizabeth Scott Community, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 22, 1910 in Maumee, the eldest of 6 children to Fred and Irene Ryan Colburn. Hazel played the piano as a child and continued to play piano and organ throughout her life. Hazel and her husband Milton opened Conant Electric an electrical supply and appliance store in Maumee in 1944. She enjoyed working at the store and helping people. In 1977 they moved to Fort Myers, FL and enjoyed golf, shuffleboard, playing cards and their neighbors. Hazel returned to Maumee in 2006 to reside at the Elizabeth Scott Community where she made many friends and was on the resident council. She enjoyed the various musical programs and playing pinochle. Hazel will be greatly missed by anyone who knew her, especially Resident Assistants Nancy and Bobbi. The widow of Milton M. Beat, Hazel is survived by her daughter, Beverly A. Archambeau of Maumee; grandchildren, Douglas and Dwight Schmidt, of Overland Park, KA, and Sandra David Blaeser, of Egan, MN; two great grandchildren; sisters, Verlyn Allison of Naples, FL and Irene Dee Donald Cooke of N. Fort Myers, FL; and sister-in-law, Eula Colburn and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Hazel was preceded in death by her daughter, Marilyn F. Mimi Schmidt; and brothers, Bill, Charles and Eugene Colburn. Family and friends may gather Saturday from 2-5 p.m. in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, OH.
