Harry L. Wheeler

Harry L. Wheeler, age 91 a resident of Harrison Township, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. He was born July 17, 1922 in Oak Harbor, Ohio to the late Harry and Olive nee Bordeaux Wheeler. On June 29, 1946 in Oak Harbor, Ohio, he was united in marriage to the former Marjorie L. Shiets. Together they celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He had an extensive educational record, attending Bob Jones University, Eastern Michigan University, and Michigan State University earning his highest degree as Education Specialist. Harry taught school in the early 1950s at Rocky Ridge Elementary in Rocky Ridge, OH and Atkinson Elementary School in Fremont, OH. From 1957 until his retirement in 1984, he was affiliated with LAnse Creuse School System. Acting as principal, he later was named assistant superintendent. He was so respected as a educator that in October of 2012 the administration building at the LAnse Creuse School System on North Gratiot, in Clinton Township, was dedicated and named for him. He was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Roseville, and currently at Faith Baptist Church also in Roseville. He was also a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. His survivors include his wife, Marjorie, five children, Lynn Timothy Leckron, Patricia Kenneth Price, Gary Barbara Wheeler, Richard Debbie Wheeler, Russell Jamie Wheeler, 16 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, siblings, Thomas Wheeler, and Carol Perkins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Russell and Robert Wheeler. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 11:00am visitation starting at 10:00 am in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 165 East Water Street, Oak Harbor, Ohio. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, Ohio with military graveside honors conducted. Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
