Harry S. Rev. Holzapfel

Rev. Harry S. Holzapfel, 78, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in Naples Community Hospital, Naples, FL. He was born February 22, 1930 in Richmond, IN, the son of Harry and Irene Schumann Holzapfel. On June 02, 1956 in Carrollton, OH, he married Valda Brackin and she survives. Harry was a member of the American Lutheran Church Clergy serving the Lord for 36 years retiring in August 1993. He served as Pastor at St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, OH and Interim Pastor of Huron Zion Lutheran Church and Hessville Lutheran Church. After retiring from his ministry, Harry worked part time for Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home and was a visitation Pastor at Shepherd of the Glades in Naples, FL. Harry was a Director of the Red Cross Bloodmobile, a member of Tri-County Alcohol Addiction Center Board, Bay Shore Counseling Board, Suicide Crisis Intervention, Firelands Dulcimer Club, the Ottawa County Ham Radio Club, board member of the Ruth Ann House, a member of the Benjamin Wolcott Keepers House Steering Committee and a longtime Docent, a longtime member of the Port Clinton Rotary Club, Chaplain for over 30 years for the Port Clinton Fire Department and Chaplain for the Port Clinton Police Department and the Port Clinton Yacht Club. Through his love of the church and life, Harry made many friends. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include: Loving Wife of 52 years: Valda Holzapfel of Port Clinton, OH; Sons: Steven Susan Holzapfel of Marietta, GA and Scott Holzapfel of Reynoldsburg, OH; Daughter: Karen Richard Blickley of Gahanna, OH and Special Daughter: Junko Koizumi of Tokyo; 6 Grandchildren: Ryan, Zane, Noah, Kallan, Katherine and Eric. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Katherine Golliher and Louise Duning, brothers: Elmer and Henry Holzapfel. Visitation will be 2-8PM, Tuesday, January 13, 2009 in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Port Clinton, OH. Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend James Lehman at 11:00AM, Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, OH, with visitation for one hour before the service. Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery, Port Clinton, OH. Memorial contributions may be given in Harrys memory to St. John Lutheran Church or to the Benjamin Wolcott Keepers House.
