Harold “Hal” Zimmerman, 87, originally from Cleveland, Ohio, and recently of Port Clinton, departed from this world on March 10, 2021, at his home with his family, friends, and loving caregivers at his side to many tunes of Frank Sinatra. He was born July 21, 1933, the son of Max and Fanny (Feldman) Zimmerman. Hal was a 1951 graduate of Glenville High School in Cleveland and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Cleveland State University in 1966. Hal served in the United States Army from 1951-1953 and worked for the U.S. Railroad from 1961-1968. Utilizing his accounting degree he worked as an accountant for Baker/Otis Elevator during the 1960’s and 70’s and later went on to work for Cleveland Crane and Engineering and Family Dental as their controller. Hal retired in 1994 and moved to Port Clinton in 2012 to be closer to family. Hal was a history enthusiast, an avid reader and enjoyed people and hearing & telling stories. He felt “communication” was one of the most important factors in human behavior and spent time sharing his thoughts through writing and conducting many eulogies of family friends. He especially loved, although they were far, his family in Israel and stayed connected over the years. He loved to dance and sing. To say Hal was an avid Cleveland sports fan would be an understatement. He especially enjoyed the Indians, Cavaliers, and Browns, however, he really was a spectator of many sports and appreciated viewing a well-played game. Exercise was life to Hal. He achieved milestones running and enjoyed playing tennis and softball. In his later years, he conducted exercise classes at his retirement village and was a member of Magruder Hospital Auxiliary, volunteering at the information desk. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Tally) Gallogly; sister, Charlene (Amos) Kopelis; grandchildren, Ty (Susannah) Gallogly and Meghan (Joshua) Brown; great-granddaughter, Alice Gallogly; nieces, Ilana, Orna, Dafna and their families; cousin, Lois Davids and her sons, Jeffrey, Scott, Glenn and their families. Hal was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice Zimmerman; and daughter, Karen (Daniel Jamieson) Zimmerman. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 14, 2021 from 9:30-11:30 am with a service at 11:30 am at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, Ohio. Afterwards, a burial graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 pm at Mount Olive Cemetery, 27855 Aurora Road, Solon, Ohio. Face masks are required and social distancing guidelines are to be observed. Memorials may be made to Magruder Hospital Foundation, United Way of Ottawa County or to a Charity of their choice.
