Harold H. Sass, 93, of Port Clinton passed away on Good Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor. He was born on February 5, 1924 in Port Clinton to M. Luther and Helen (Rohde) Sass. He graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1942. On August 8, 1948 in Burgoon, OH he married Norma Mitchell, and she preceded him in death on August 11, 1994. Harold was a lifelong resident of Ottawa County and was recognized as one of the first families of Ottawa County. He worked as a lifelong farmer, served as a Portage Township Trustee for 28 years, and drove school bus for Port Clinton City Schools for 19 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, where he previously served on church council and played on the dart ball team. Harold was also a member of the Ottawa County Farm Bureau, the Odd Fellows Lodge of Port Clinton, and the Ottawa County Democratic Party. Harold is survived by his sons, Kenneth Sass and James (Molly) Sass both of Port Clinton, grandson, Scott (Molly) Sass of Lakewood, OH, granddaughter, Laura Sass of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, grandson, Michael (Cat) Sass of Charlotte, NC, and great grandson, Ramble Sass of Lakewood, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Visitation for Harold will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the funeral home by Reverend James Lehman with interment to follow in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Harold may be given to St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton or Heartland Hospice.
