Harold Ray Skidmore

Jan 7, 1958 — Sep 7, 2026

***awaiting obituary***
Harold Ray Skidmore, known affectionately to his family and friends as "Harvey James," "Gunkle," and "Pedro," passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026, in Oregon, Ohio, at the age of 68.

Harold was born on January 7, 1958, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to Harold Lawrence and Marie (Johnson) Skidmore. He attended Oak Harbor High School before beginning a lifelong career in various aspects of construction. Harold was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and never shied away from getting his hands dirty.

On July 13, 2013, Harold married the love of his life, Nancy (Fisher), in a ceremony at their home in Oak Harbor.

When Harold wasn't working, he could most often be found doing the things he loved most-hunting or fishing. He especially enjoyed hunting deer in the hills of Kentucky and fishing for perch and walleye. He loved being outdoors in the fall, enjoying the crisp air and changing leaves. Even during the winter months, Harold could be found outside chopping wood.

Harold had a special place in his heart for his beloved boxer, Josie, whose name was inspired by the Clint Eastwood character Josey Wales. He enjoyed watching Moonshiners, Swamp People, and Pittsburgh Steelers football. He was always happy to sit down and enjoy one of Nancy's home-cooked meals.

Music was another important part of Harold's life. He loved bluegrass and country music, especially listening to the many bands in which his father participated. Those songs and memories were a meaningful connection to his family and his roots.

Harold will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Nancy; his mother, Marie; his sisters, Joyce (Doug) Hill and Teresa Tesch; his stepdaughters, Shelley (Todd) Gray, Stacey (Paul) West, and Jennifer (Dave) Fisher; and his many beloved nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his father, Harold Lawrence Skidmore; his sister, Edna Sue Weirich; and his son, Ryan L. Skidmore.
