Gwen A. Gunner, 89, passed peacefully in her sleep on August 28, 2016. Gwen was born May 27, 1927 in Detroit, MI. She married the loved of her life, William E. Gunner, on June 25, 1949. Bill and Gwen loved to spend their time together with family and friends on their houseboat at the Toledo Yacht Club, the Bavarian Club or at events like the German American Festival. For those who knew Gwen, we will miss her off-color jokes, her laugh and her love to play (and teach) cards. She loved to hang out with her sisters, bake goodies, drink beer and watch baseball (Go Tigers!) - all with a cigarette in her hand. Gwen Grams was loved by so many, but none more than her granddaughter, Melissa, who was her partner in crime for the past 10 years. They shared many good memories including trips to Florida, Tennessee, Oktoberfest in Frankenmuth, as well as years of celebrating St. Patricks Day at OBs and attending German American Festivals, not to mention, many Detroit Tigers and Toledo Mud Hens games. Gwen is survived by her daughters, Roxanne (Tom) Niedbalski and Luanne Shoemaker; grandchildren, Lisa Niedbalski Lachs, Angie Niedbalski, Michael Gunner, Melissa Gunner and Jacob Shoemaker; great grandchildren, Julian, Addison, Aiden and Joseph; sister, Betty Ann (Glenn) Richards; and many others that called her Grams. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William; and siblings, Millie, Tony, Ruth, Betty, Doc and Joann. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their care of Gwen during the last few weeks. The love and compassion will not be forgotten. The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Services will begin with prayers in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Thursday and proceed to St. Clement Catholic Church for 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be gifted to the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
