Grover H. Baldwin

October 19, 1942 — October 17, 2022

Grover Henry Baldwin, 79, of Toledo, OH, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022, surrounded by his loving family at the ProMedica Ebeid Hospice Residence. He was the husband of Lynn Ann Deckard Fritz. Born October 19, 1942, in Plainfield, NJ, he was the son of Grover Jacob Baldwin and Norma Annette Heuser. Grover received his bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University (1964), where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He earned his master’s degree (1970) and doctorate degree (1977) from Lehigh University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Sergeant in Vietnam, from 1968-1969, where he earned a Bronze Star and a commendation for meritorious achievement. A life-long educator, his teaching career took him from New Jersey and Pennsylvania, to Kansas, then to Indiana and finally, Ohio, where he retired as chair of the department of Educational Leadership at the University of Toledo, in 1999.

Grover was also a life-long learner and his interests and hobbies included trout fishing, tying his own flies, sailing, racing sailboats on Lake Erie, photography, gardening, and woodworking – large projects such as cabinetry and furniture, to small projects including toys for his grandsons. His drive and passion for justice and fairness led him to volunteer for the Midwest Innocence Project while living in Kansas City.

In addition to his loving wife of 38 years, he is survived by his sister, Joyce Rudowski; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth & David Drembus and Candace & Wesley Robinson; two sons and daughter-in-law, Andrew Fritz, and Matthew & Patti Fritz, and three grandsons, Philip Drembus, Henry Drembus, and Patrick Fritz.
