Gregory “Greg” A. Contat, 62, passed away March 29, 2024, at Regency Hospital (at St. Charles Hospital), in Oregon, Ohio. Born November 20, 1961, Greg grew up in Maumee, Ohio, just down the street from Sidecut Metropark, where he spent many hours when he was young.
Greg was the youngest child of Marvin “Luke” Contat and Doris (Gibson) Contat. His was a family of ten children. He is survived by his brothers, Gary (Eileen) Contat and Jeff Contat, and his sisters, Penny (Randal) Olds, Gale Contat, Becky (Mark) Chitwood and Bobbi (Mike) Jurek. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Kathy (Rol) Shue, Linda Delrue and Debbie Contat. Greg also had many nieces and nephews.
Greg is survived by his wife, Janine (Swanson) Contat, who he met in November 1989. They married on March 28, 1992, just having their 32nd anniversary. Greg is also survived by Janine's family, brothers-in-law Jay Swanson and Jim (Julie) Swanson and sister-in-law June Swanson (Mark Schaub).
Greg attended Maumee Schools and Penta, graduating in 1981. He loved to play baseball as a child in the Maumee Little League. As an adult, he played pool on a league at the former Brother Baker's (now the Village Idiot) in Maumee. Greg was an avid fan of Ohio State football and the Cleveland Browns and was still waiting for them to make it to the Super Bowl. Greg loved all his dogs, especially his Buddy that shared the recliner with him every day.
Greg worked for many years in the construction of swimming pools for Olympic Pools, with his brother, Jeff. He also worked in fire extinguisher/fire suppression service for several years before going on disability in 2009.
Visitation will be at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, Maumee, on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 4-8 pm where funeral services will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 11:00 am. Greg’s final resting place will be at Riverside Cemetery, in Maumee, adjacent to Sidecut Metropark and the Maumee River.
Janine would like to thank all the wonderful doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, and the staff at Davita in Northwood for the care shown to Greg for many years.
