Grace E. Schober

Grace E. Schober, age 93, of Millbury, died Thursday, December 1, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 29, 1918 in Toledo to George and Julia (Johlin) Bitter and resided in Wood Co. all her life. On August 21, 1943 she married Frederick Schober and he preceded her in death on April 20, 2001. Grace was a graduate of BGSU with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She taught at Cygnet High School. Grace enjoyed arranging flowers, sewing and baking, but most of all being a homemaker and mother. She served on the Board of the Lutheran Home of Mercy in Williston. Grace was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Latcha where she was a Sunday school teacher, served in the church’s Alter Guild and sang in the choir. Grace was a longtime 4-H leader and a member of Happy Hobby Garden Club. She served one term as the Vice President of Portage Conference Church Women. She is survived by her loving children, Carl (Marlene) Schober, Rita Schober, Nancy (Jack) Rapelje, and Irma (Daniel) Byrnes; grandchildren, Sarah (Billy Hamilton Jr.) Rapelje, Amy (Brian) Vorst, Hans and Carla Schober; great-grandchildren, Derek, Ella and Mylah Vorst. Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frederick; siblings, Arnold, Martin, George Jr., and Julius Bitter, Alice Emch and Margaret Staib. Friends will be received on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, from 3-8pm in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home 701 N. Main St. Walbridge (419-666-3121) and will continue on Thursday from 10-11am in Zion Lutheran Church 26535 Pemberville Rd. Perrysburg, Ohio 43551 until the time of services at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Lake Township Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Zion Lutheran Church or Luther Home of Mercy.
